A faculty was constructed on one of many Gates of Hell, behind which hordes of demons await the second they are going to be free to roam the Earth. Hiruko is a goblin despatched to Earth on a reconnaissance mission. He beheads college students with a purpose to assemble their heads on the demons’ spider-like our bodies. Hieda, an archaeology professor, and Masao, a haunted scholar, examine the gory deaths.
Hiruko the Goblin seems like a really formidable movie for director Shinya Tsukamoto (Tetsuo: The Iron Man), with a a lot bigger scope for the story than his often extra character targeted motion pictures like Bullet Ballet (1998) or A Snake of June (2002). With Hiruko the Goblin he principally makes an alien invasion movie with a yokai pores and skin and pits two unlikely heroes towards the demons of hell.
